How Does Laser Therapy Work?
When laser light interacts with the body’s tissues, it sets off a chain of biological responses. The deep-penetrating light triggers the release of endorphins which are natural painkillers. This also stimulates injured cells to heal at an accelerated pace. This dual action results in reduced pain and quicker recovery, allowing your pet to regain their comfort and mobility.

Benefits of Laser Therapy for Pets
Pain Reduction: Laser therapy is a powerful tool for alleviating pain in pets. Whether your furry friend is recovering from surgery or is dealing with a chronic condition like arthritis, laser therapy can provide significant pain relief.
Non-invasive Treatment: Unlike some medical treatments that may require invasive procedures, laser therapy is entirely non-invasive. There are no incisions or medications, making it a gentle and safe option for pets.
Enhanced Healing: By promoting the body’s natural healing processes, laser therapy can accelerate the recovery of injured tissues. This means less downtime and a quicker return to normal activities for your pet.
Reduced Anxiety: Many pets experience anxiety during medical treatments. Laser therapy, with its pain-relieving and soothing effects, can help reduce anxiety and create a calmer treatment experience.

Differentiating patients with IBD from those with IBS can be difficult. This is mostly because both conditions present several similar symptoms like abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Historically, clinical gastroenterology uses invasive endoscopy to distinguish IBD from IBS. Now, through advanced testing procedures, gastrointestinal symptoms indicative of irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease can be easily diagnosed.
Fecal calprotectin analysis eliminates the need for unnecessary colonoscopy procedures which will effectively minimize patient stress, shorten the clinic wait time, and lessen costs.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is the chronic inflammation of tissues in your digestive tract. Depending on the severity of the inflammation, a person with IBD can experience diarrhea, fatigue, abdominal pain and cramping, bloody stool, reduced appetite, and weight loss.
The two types of IBD that have symptoms of diarrhea, rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, fatigue, and weight loss are the following:
1. Ulcerative Colitis: This is the inflammation and sores (ulcers) along the lining of a person’s large intestine and rectum.
2. Crohn’s Disease: This is characterized by inflammation of the lining of your digestive tract, which often can involve the deeper layers of the digestive tract. This disease commonly affects the small intestine and upper gastrointestinal tract.

The Presence of Calprotectin in Stool
Calprotectin is a protein biomarker present in human feces because of intestinal inflammation. The measurement for Calprotectin concentration is considered one of the most reliable procedures to discern IBD from IBS.
The amount of calprotectin in stool is directly associated with the severity of intestinal inflammation. This analysis helps ensure efficient treatment adapted to the specific needs of the patient.

1. Ear Infection
Ear infections can affect any dog breed, particularly dogs with floppy ears like beagles and bloodhounds. The primary causes of ear infections are bacteria and yeast. The bacteria and yeast live and thrive due to moisture, excess cleaning, allergies, wax buildup, and the dog’s ear injuries. It can lead to deafness and even paralysis when left untreated.
Common symptoms include itchiness, head shaking, ear discharges, redness, pain, and odor. Treating ear infections requires veterinary examination and can take up to 2 weeks before healing completely. Antibiotics and ear drops may be prescribed to help with the healing process.

2. Allergies
Like humans, dogs can also experience allergies. These allergies could be skin, food, and acute allergic reactions. Allergy symptoms include itchiness, itchy ears, vomiting, diarrhea, sneezing, itchy eyes, inflamed skin, constant licking, and face, ears, and lip swelling.
Treating allergies requires vet examinations diagnosing a specific allergy. Prescribed medication can help alleviate pain and suppress allergies.

3. Worms
The most common disease in dogs is brought by worms. They are intestinal parasites that can cause digestive system infestation. There are four types of worms that can infect dogs: Roundworms, Whipworms, Hookworms, and Tapeworms.
Detecting worm infestation in dogs is looking out for symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, loss of appetite, a dull coat, itchiness, skin irritation, scratching using the ground or hard surfaces, presence of worms in the dogs’ feces, pot belly, and coughing.
Your veterinarian will prescribe deworming medicine to help treat and prevent dog intestinal worms.

5. Canine Distemper
This is a highly contagious virus caused by the paramyxovirus. This disease affects the gastrointestinal, respiratory, skin, immune, and central nervous systems of the dog resulting in a widespread infection that is difficult to treat, making it a potentially lethal disease.
Symptoms of canine distemper are:
– Fever
– Nose and eye discharge
– Lethargy
– Coughing and sneezing
– Breathing difficulties
There are no sure ways to treat this disease, which makes it deadly. Veterinarians will prescribe antibiotics and vitamin supplements to help with the treatment of canine distemper.

6. Kennel Cough
Dogs can get this disease by inhaling bacteria and virus particles from other infected dogs or infectious places like daycare facilities, dogs’ parks, etc. Inhaling this bacterium can make your dog susceptible to contracting canine adenovirus, canine distemper virus, canine herpes virus, parainfluenza virus, and canine reovirus.
If a dog is infected with kennel cough, it may develop the following symptoms:
– Strong cough
– Runny nose
– Sneezing
– Lethargy
– Loss of appetite
– Low fever
Treating dogs with kennel cough is easy. Veterinarians will prescribe antibiotics and cough medication to ease symptoms and prevent secondary infections. While pet owners can prevent Kennel cough by vaccinating their dogs against this disease.

Ticks and fleas are the most common external parasites in dogs and cats worldwide. These parasites feed on the blood of their host and can cause irritating bites transmitting various diseases to your pets.
Animal fur provides a suitable environment for fleas and ticks to live. Both ticks and fleas can thrive in warmer months, but ticks can also adapt to survive in cold weather.
Despite the similarities, these two vastly different parasites can carry various diseases that affect your pets. Here is how you can detect and determine tick and flea bite dermatitis.

Detecting Tick Bite Dermatitis
Ticks are parasites that feed on the blood of animals like cats, dogs, and rats. Tick bites are often harmless. However, tick bites can cause allergic reactions, and some can even pass diseases on to humans and animals. Ticks inject an anesthetic into the skin at its point of entry, resulting in a painless tick bite. Ticks also burrow their head under the skin after one bite, feeding on their host for up to 10 days.
Identifying ticks in long-furred animals is difficult but possible. Ticks can grow up to 3-5 mm in length depending on sex, species, and fullness.
Tick bites will leave a small red bump on the site of the sting. Tick bites usually go away on their own in a few days. Animals infected with ticks will experience the following tick-borne illness symptoms:
– Itching
– Swelling
– Chewing and licking the infected area
– Fever/ chills
– Aches and pains
– Rashes
When left untreated, ticks can spread diseases that might endanger your pet and compromise their health. Several infections can occur from these bites are:
– Ehrlichia
– Subclinical Ehrlichiosis
– Acute Ehrlichiosis
– Clinical Ehrlichiosis
– Anaplasmosis
– Rocky Mountain spotted fever
– Lyme Disease
-Babesia

Detecting Flea Bite Dermatitis
Fleas are more common among cats and dogs. They are wingless, traveling from host to host by jumping. Detecting flea bites is crucial as there could be areas in the skin that may need treatment. Flea infestation usually causes unsightly skin irritations on pets.
When a flea bites its host, its saliva makes contact with the skin of its host, causing itchy and red bumps on the skin called flea allergy dermatitis (FAD).
The most effective way to determine whether your pets have flea allergy dermatitis is through a physical examination. Fleas may be difficult to locate, and they frequent the neck and chest area of cats and dogs. Veterinarians can look for flea feces instead to determine if there is an infestation.
This skin disease can result in extreme discomfort for pets and even cause painful infected skin lesions, uncontrollable itching, and dry skin.

Treatment and Prevention
Preventing and treating tick and flea infestation is not an easy task. Most home remedies will not altogether remove the parasite. Protecting your pets from ticks and fleas is vital to keeping your home clean. You can also ask your veterinarian to administer anti-tick and flea medications like Virbac’s Effipro Topical Pet Spray. This topical spray provides three months of protection against fleas and a month of anti-tick protection for your pets.

Diabetes is an autoimmune disease characterized by high blood sugar levels for an extended period. It is the result of improper blood sugar regulation caused by increased insulin resistance in the body. If left untreated, diabetes can become a source of several vision problems like diabetic retinopathy.

What is Diabetic Retinopathy?
This is caused by elevated levels of blood sugar blocking small blood vessels in the retina. This causes the body to develop newer but weaker blood vessels that can cause blood leaks in the eye. This disease affects up to 80% of people with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

 Two Types of Diabetic Retinopathy
1. Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR): This is the primary stage of diabetic retinopathy. This occurs when small blood vessels leak fluids, causing the retina to swell or form exudates.
2. Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy: This is the advanced stage of retinopathy and is the body’s attempt to save the retina. But instead, this often leads to scarring of the retina. Newer but weaker blood vessels begin to form on the retina to help supply blood.

1. This is more sensitive and can detect infections earlier.
Molecular Diagnostics is more sensitive in detecting lower amounts of infectious agents, therefore giving it the ability to detect infections earlier.
Detecting infections earlier is one of the selling points of Molecular Diagnostics. It is valuable since it can detect infectious materials even at the early stages of infections when the body hasn’t produced antibodies against the pathogen.

2. It can detect, analyze, and diagnose infections and can help doctors give the proper treatment to patients.
In testing for infectious diseases, this tests patients’ samples for illnesses and screens them for colonized or contaminated people. Once the attending physician analyzes the test results, he will then diagnose the patient with the condition and then monitors the course or spread of the infection.

Diabetes is a lifelong chronic disease described as having high levels of blood sugar levels. The main source of your body’s energy is the blood sugar levels that come from the food that you eat. Your body will produce a hormone called insulin that helps maintain your blood sugar levels. Diabetes occurs when your body does not produce enough or stops producing insulin.
Managing your diabetes is no easy task; constantly keeping track of your blood sugar level, watching what you eat, taking medications on time and so much more. But managing your diabetes is not too tedious. Here is how to make your daily diabetes management routine easier!

4. Become Active!
Getting regular physical activity can help you manage your blood sugar levels. Becoming physically active can make your body more sensitive to insulin. Aside from regulating your blood sugar levels, physical activity also minimizes the risk of heart diseases and nerve damage.
Here are some physical activities you can add to your daily routine:
– (Brisk) Walking
– Cycling
– Running
– Doing Household Chores

5. Check Your Feet!
Diabetes can reduce blood circulation and damage the nerves in your feet. Nerve damage can cause numbness, tingling, and pain in the feet. Nerve damage caused by diabetes can lead to infections or other serious outcomes (like amputation) if not treated properly.
Here are some tips you can add to your daily routine to keep your feet healthy:
– Check your feet for cuts, sores, or other small injuries every day
– Wash your feet every day (Avoid soaking your feet)
– Wear shoes that fit you well
– Wear socks when wearing closed-toe shoes
– Keep your blood flowing by moving your toes and your feet every day.
– When doing physical activities, try to choose foot-friendly activities.
